front eventually taking the lead on lap 71 for the only time as he cruised on from their in his patented fourth groove to claim his 14th win of the season and second straight track championship.

“There is definitely something special about being able to win two championships in a row,” said Mercer. “We were able to come out here and earn 8 wins, but we definitely had more bad luck this year and everyone else really stepped their game up which made this one a lot tougher on us.”

Andy Mercer was also able to ride his season to a seventh place finish in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series North Carolina state points, the highest among Late Model Stock drivers, as well as 82nd in the NASCAR National standings.

Mercer now looks forward to returning to Martinsville after what he felt was a successful test session this past Wednesday. “We were definitely good, felt a lot better then what the clock and time sheets showed,” said Mercer referring to the fact that he mocked up for qualifying at a completely different part of the day than others who ran faster times.

Mercer will be taking his new black number 10 to Martinsville this weekend for the Virginia Is For Racing Lovers 300, saving the old car, nicknamed "red" for a return to Hickory the following week to compete in the Fall Brawl. Mercer will also be competing in the Super Truck division at the Fall Brawl for the first time since moving up to Late Model Stock Cars.  From there its off to South Carolina to wrap the season up at the Myrtle Beach 400 in November.

Andy Mercer will be back in action this Saturday with a 50 lap event for the Late Model Stocks at Hickory Motor Speedway. Mercer went into the race needing only to start to lay claim to the title but knew that wouldn’t be good enough as he looks to gain momentum heading into the “big” races coming up over the next couple of weeks. Rolling off fourth on the starting grid wasn’t exactly what Mercer wanted but after having fought a tight condition in his race car all day he was willing to take whatever he could get.
