Bio Compiled & Written by Kelly Huffman

Thriving off the thrill of speed, Andy Mercer recognized his talent at an early age. He was always good at other sports, but racing simply came natural and nothing could top the passion he had to win.

Andy began racing go-karts at age 13. In three years, he accumulated 32 wins at the Southern Pride Raceway in Blacksburg, South Carolina.

Andy has been racing stock cars at Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, North Carolina, since 2004. In his rookie year racing in the Limited Late Model division, he finished 5th in track points and scored 1 win and 1 pole.

In 2005 he climbed to 2nd in points with an amazing 7 wins and 8 poles.

In 2006 Andy continued his dominance in the Limited Late Models, as well as made a very impressive Late Model Stock Debut. During the first race of the 2006 Late Model Stock Division season, his first ever Late Model Stock Division race, he drove into victory lane from a 2nd place starting position against a 32-car field. He led the points in both Divisions for much of the season, until mid season mechanical failures relegated him to 4th in Late Model Stock track points and Rookie of the Year. Andy finished the Limited Late Model Division 2nd in points, with 7 wins and 7 poles ending an unparalleled Double Duty season.

Although he only competed part-time in 2007, he yielded 1 pole and won 2 out of 5 races, including the Fall Brawl in the Late Model Super Truck Division.

In 2008, it was back to racing full-time in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Division. Andy was once again the most dominant driver with 8 wins and 12 poles finishing the season 2nd in track points and 4th in the state just narrowly missing the Championship.

Currently, in the 2009 season Andy and his team are enjoying unparalelled sucess as they've won 13 out of possible 16 races at Hickory Motor Speedway.  He's also currently leading the championship points standings with just a handful of races remaining before the 2009 champion is crowned!

Stay tuned this could be a record breaking year for Andy Mercer and Team Mercer Racing!
